Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders

Several times I have tried different versions on this recipe, and usually the sauce is to tart, it is too soggy, or the opposite of not having enough sauce. Another big thing for me is the cheese. I am not a Swiss cheese fan, and most recipes of this type call for Swiss.

So I took matters into my own hands, and played around with a few different recipes to get the right sauce consistency, taste, flavor, and cheese to meat ratio. I also switched out Swiss cheese for Provolone cheese and in this recipe used my homemade dinner rolls recipe to amp it up a notch!

Let me tell you, the provolone cheese and the sauce that goes on top is so good in this recipe. And what is even more surprising is that it taste even better the second day! How often does that happen?! If you love a good ham and cheese sandwich on a homemade bun or roll, then this is the recipe for you my friend!

If you love a good ham and cheese sandwich on a homemade bun or roll, then this is the recipe for you my friend! It has a yummy mustard poppy seed sauce lathered on top and it baked to perfection! A perfect weeknight meal!

Ingredients

  • 2 dozen soft dinner rolls
  • 24 slices deli ham
  • 24 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 TBLS poppy seeds
  • 2 TBLS yellow mustard
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 TBLS minced dehydrated onion optional
  • 1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1

Slice rolls and put small 1 slice of ham and one slice of provolone on it.

2

Place sandwiches in 2- 9x13 baking dishes or one large jelly roll pan.

3

Heat ingredients for topping in a saucepan until butter is melted.

4

Brush or spoon topping onto sandwiches right before cooking.

5

Cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until cheese melts.

Notes

1. If you would like to do a different cheese or meat feel free to do so. Turkey is great and Swiss cheese. --- 2. If you want a milder sauce flavor, use dijon mustard and half the amount of Worcestershire sauce. --- 3. Cook longer to make the buns more crispy on top. --- 4. Tastes awesome the next day! Can sit in fridge for another 2-3 days after cooking.
