Dark Cocoa Chocolate Chip Cookies

Dark cocoa chocolate chip cookies with semi sweet chocolate chips on parchment paper and a wire rack.

Growing up I pretty much stuck to one basic cooke recipe. Chocolate Chip. Let’s be honest, a classic chocolate chip cookie is bomb when made the right way so there is no dissing here. I learned my moms recipe and it has remained my absolute favorite despite many other recipes I have tried. I always come back to that cookie. When I got married however, I married a foodie who loves to try new foods and experiment with ingredients. And I love baking more than cooking so naturally I geared towards trying out a new cookie recipe which lead me to these incredible dark cocoa chocolate chip cookies.

They are a fun twist on your typical chocolate chip cookies and is almost between a mix between brownies too. Super dense and soft, and gooey when you break the cookie in half. And if you are wondering why these cookies are so dark it is because we used a special dark cocoa called The Cocoa Trader that you can’t typically find at the store. It tastes just like regular cocoa, but has a nice dark color great for baking brownies, or adding to frosting to make a black color.

Anyway, these are the perfect cookies to make for a friend party or family gathering, or even when are having the craving for a late night snack. Which lets be honest, happens quite often here in the Ragar household. And also don’t worry if you don’t have or can’t find extra dark cocoa like we use for this recipe. We have used regular cocoa powder that you can find at your local grocery store too and tastes just as good!

I would suggest however to stick with semi-sweet chocolate chips with the cookie. Never milk chocolate! 🙂 We hope you enjoy making and eating these cookies as much as we do, and that they are a fun change in cookie recipe for you every once and a while like it does for us! Happy get fooding!

Notes

1. Like mentioned up above, if you do not have dark cocoa, regular cocoa powder will be a great substitute. --- 2. Espresso powder if used helps increase the chocolate flavor of the cookie. We usually don't use espresso powder and love how they turn out. It is all about preference. --- 3. The cookies will last in a box on your shelf for up to 3 days.
